Anyone's Child: Families for Safer Drug Control

Devon Takes Drugs Seriously: Bereaved families, ex-undercover cop and South West charity call for drugs to be legalised and regulated.

“Banning the production, sale and use of drugs endangers us all, but particularly the most vulnerable. Legal regulation would put doctors, pharmacists and government in control of the drug trade, and put people’s health and welfare first.” – Danny Kushlick, founder of Transform Drug Policy Foundation.

What: A Public Event – Devon Takes Drugs Seriously

When: Thursday 17th May, 7:30-9:00 pm

Where: Exeter Corn Exchange, Market Street, Exeter EX1 1BW

Come and listen to the stories of local mum Chris Evans whose son died of an accidental overdose and Esther Campbell whose 16 year old brother Luke died from an accidental ecstasy overdose and hear how the current approach to drugs is failing to protect families. They will be joined by experts; Suzanne Sharkey, a former undercover police officer and drugs expert & Transform’s founder, Danny Kushlick to explain why they are calling on the government to legalise and regulate drugs.

The panel event will be followed by a Q&A session where you will be able to get involved with the discussion and hear the viewpoints of other audience members. All too often discussion of the drug war (prohibition) and its potential end (legal regulation) takes place amongst a small group of ‘experts’, whereas Transform and the Anyone’s Child campaign recognise that it is ordinary people who bear the brunt of bad drug policy and ordinary people who will benefit from its reform. Come and have your say in the debate!

Chris Evans, mother of Jake and member of Anyone’s Child:

“I am absolutely sure that Jake’s death in May 2016 at the age of 22 could have been avoided if his condition had been viewed as medical and not as a lifestyle choice.”

Esther Campbell, sister of Luke and member of Anyone’s Child:

“I want the legal regulation of drug production and distribution to reduce the harm they pose and to stop other families suffering as mine has.”

Suzanne Anyone's Child

Suzanne Sharkey, former undercover police officer and vice chair of LEAP UK:

“We are never going to arrest our way out of the war on drugs; as soon as your arrest one person, there is someone literally waiting to fill their place. But there are solutions and it’s time we did something different.”
