Drugs can be dangerous. But does banning them cause more harm than good? Come along to learn about the impact of drugs on Weston-super-Mare and how we can better protect our community. It is time we all take drugs and drug policy seriously.

When: 7:30 – 9:00pm, Thursday 5 April
Where: Loves Cafe, 9 West Street, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1JR
Tickets available here

Come and hear:

Neil Woods – former undercover police officer and award winning crime author of ‘Good Cop, Bad War’

“Legalise and regulate the supply of illicit drugs and you deprive the most vicious gangsters in the world of the £375 billion annual income that funds their operations.”

Cara Lavan – partner of Jake Coe, who died of an accidental overdose and campaigner for Anyone’s Child.

“I believe that if Jake’s drug use could’ve been treated as the medical use that it was, rather than the criminal issue that it wasn’t, he would still be alive today. Father, partner, brother, uncle, son, grandson, friend and colleague. The world is not a better place for the loss of Jake Coe.”

All too often discussion of the drug war (prohibition) and its potential end (legal regulation) takes place amongst a small group of ‘experts’.  It is also an issue that politicians invariably misuse to demonstrate how tough they are. Transform and the Anyone’s Child campaign recognise that it is ordinary people who bear the brunt of bad drug policy and ordinary people who will benefit from its reform.  To that end we are holding a series of public events to enable the public to engage with the issue in an accessible way.

One of our Anyone’s Child supporters, Alex Wolfe-Warman asked if we could put on an event in his home town of Weston-super-Mare.

Alex said:

“My personal belief is that these events are helpful everywhere and Weston is no exception to that, as they raise awareness of the unnecessary suffering caused by prohibition and our current drug laws. There are no winners in this war on drugs just lots of victims.

“By educating and informing people about the current laws and their consequences and offering viable alternatives (to these laws) based on research and evidence we can change the lives of millions and millions of people for the better.”

Join the discussion about what a new approach to drugs could mean for Somerset, your family and your community.

A Question and Answer session will follow the speakers.

This is a free charity event, and donations will be gratefully received.

Free tickets are available here.
