The so called ‘war on drugs’ is collapsing. From Canada to Portugal, Bolivia to New Zealand, countries around the world, are replacing outdated drug policies that destroy people’s health and livelihoods with alternatives such as decriminalisation and legal regulation.
These reforms have huge potential to protect health and human rights, and repair the years of damage caused by of prohibition. But they must put people’s rights at the forefront to avoid putting power in the hand of big business who are likely to prioritise profit over people.
