Thank you so much for standing with us. By taking on this challenge, you are helping us fight for drug laws that are centred around honesty, compassion and health.
The Challenge: 45 Miles in October
Over the past 10 years in the UK, more than 45,000 lives have been lost to failing drug policies. Each one was someone’s child, brother, sister or parent.
In memory of those we have lost, and to prevent future tragedies, we are challenging you to walk, run, or cycle 45 miles throughout October. Every mile you move and every pound you raise helps us campaign for a change to our failed drug laws.
5 Steps to Kickstart Your Fundraising
1. Personalise Your Page
By now, you should have created your personalised online fundraising page, linked to the 45 miles in October challenge.
Tell your story: Edit your page to explain why this cause matters to you. Sharing your personal motivation makes people much more likely to donate.
Add a photo: Pages with a profile picture raise significantly more than those without.
2. Set Your Target (and Get a Free T-Shirt!)
We recommend starting with £150, but feel free to set it as high as you like!
The £200 Reward: As a special thank-you, if you smash your target and raise £200 or more, we will send you an Anyone’s Child-branded T-shirt.
3. Track Your Miles and compete with others
Keep your supporters updated on your physical progress by linking your Strava account or Fitbit directly to your fundraising page. Not only does it help you track your progress, but it also lets your donors see all the miles you conquer as the month goes along.
To connect:
– Log in to your JustGiving account.
– Open the fundraising page you want to link.
– Scroll down and click the “Connect Strava” or “Fitbit” button.
– Allow the required permissions for JustGiving to access your data.
4. Shout about it online
Share your fundraising link in your bio or story on Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn.
Tag us @anyoneschild on Instagram or Facebook, and we will report your journey to our wider community!
5. Need a Helping Hand?
We are here for you every step of the way. If you need support, extra resources, or just some encouragement, email us at katem@tdpf.org.uk, and our team will get right back to you.
Creative Fundraising Ideas to Help You Reach Your Goal
Need some inspiration to hit that £200 mark? Here are a few ways to get started:
Post Online & Share Updates
Don’t just post the link once. Update your followers on your milestones.
Idea: “Just hit 15 miles! That’s over a third of the way there. Please donate £5 to help me reach my next milestone.” Share post-workout selfies or share your Strava map to keep people engaged.
See below for custom stickers to help with post ideas!
Create Custom Leaflets
Local support can make a huge difference. If you have digital skills, create a simple leaflet that explains the 45-mile challenge and include a QR code linking directly to your fundraising page.
Idea: Pop them through neighbours’ letterboxes, or ask to leave a small stack at your local café, gym, community centre, or workplace noticeboard.
Strength in Numbers: Do It with Friends or Family
You don’t have to do this alone. Bringing friends or family along makes the miles fly by.
Idea: Organise a weekend group walk or bike ride. You can charge a small “entry fee” (e.g., £5 per person), which goes straight toward your fundraising total, or ask them to share your page.
Idea: share your fundraising page on your family group chat and let them show their support!
Host a Milestone Bake Sale or Coffee Morning
Celebrate reaching the halfway mark of your challenge by hosting a small get-together.
Idea: Invite friends over for coffee and cake in exchange for a donation to your page. It’s a great opportunity to talk about why Anyone’s Child’s work is so vital.
Good Luck!
Every mile you move brings us one step closer to ending the heartbreak of drug-related deaths.
Thank you for your incredible support; our work would not be possible without it.
