Anyone’s Child held an event in Parliament following our action on the 26th June entitled ‘What Next for UK Drug Policy’. The event was hosted by Crispin Blunt MP (Conservative) and Jeff Smith MP (Labour).

The event included powerful speeches by Anyone’s Child families Rose and Anne-Marie, and Neil Woods, Chairman of LEAP.

Rose and Anne-Marie’s powerful speeches were recorded in full and can be viewed here:
“Now no responsible parent want’s to think of their child taking drugs. But I believe that if Martha had taken something that was legally regulated, labelled with recommended dosage and a list of ingredients, she would not have swallowed enough for five to ten people and she’d still be alive today”Anne-Marie Cockburn.

“When my Grandchildren are older I’d prefer them not to use drugs. But if they do, I want it to be without going to unsafe environments. Without risking a criminal record, or worse. Without their families feeling fear and shame. And with truthful drugs education, and by choosing safely produced and labelled products from regulated outlets. That’s why I joined Anyone’s Child”Rose Humphries.

The room was packed out with MPs, members of the police and treatment organisations. There was a general sense of excitement in the room and a lively Q+A demonstrating that momentum around reform is building.
Please get involved and help us to change Britain’s drug laws, you can do so by lobbying your MP –  by emailing them, or arranging a meeting either in Parliament or your constituency.
